Factors and Multiples

 Properties of Factors:

1. 1 is a factor of every number


2. A number is a factor of itself.


3. A number is a factor of another larger number if it divides the larger number.


4. The smallest factor of a number is 1.


5. The greatest factor of a number is the number itself.


6. The factors of a number are always less than or equal to the number.


7. Every number is a factor of zero.


Example: 0x7=0;0x15


Properties of Multiples:

1. Zero is a multiple of every number

e.g., 0 x 3= 0;   0 x 5= 0,  0 x7=0

2. Every number is a multiple of 1.

e.g., 1 x3=3;1 x5=5;1x7=7

3. Every number is a multiple of itself.

e.g., 1 x 2 2; 1x4 4;1x7=7

4. The smallest multiple of a number is the number itself

5. Multiples of a number are either greater than or equal to the number.

6. The multiple of a number can be divided by it without leaving any remainder.

14 /2 =7(No remainder)
